Let us introduce you to “Candle Memory” – Yes, it’s a thing!
You are the proud new owner of a dusk candle! (Or, your candle habit is already well and truly in force and you are an expert candle-owner – we salute you!)
Before you excitedly unbox the newest member of your candle collection and get ready to light, we want to introduce you to a thing called “The first burn” – so step away from your laser lighter and read below to see how you can get your candle to live its best life.
CANDLE MEMORY? IS THAT A THING?
Have you ever heard of “Candle Memory”? Oh, trust us, candle memory is a thing and it’s the thing that is the difference between a 45-hour lifetime or a 12-hour lifetime burn.
“Candle memory helps you get MAXIMUM burn time from your candles”
(and really, isn’t that what we all want for our newest homeware member?)
OK – WELL THEN, WHAT IS CANDLE MEMORY?
Put simply, it’s the wax that melts around the wick for each burn. Ideally you want the wax to melt to the edge of your jar candle or to the marked line on your pillar candles, so that you maximise the life of your candle and the wonderful fragrance that comes with it.
Ever had a candle that just burns down around the wick? (That’s called candle tunnelling BTW!) It’s frustrating for you because it means your candle burns quicker and it doesn’t utilise all that gorgeous fragrance that is found in the wax!
So - It’s all about that first burn…
SURE – HOW DO I SET THE CANDLE MEMORY?
To set the pattern of your candle burn (and ultimately how long it burns for and how fragrant it is) you need your first burn to be a bit scientific, after that, you can burn whenever and however you want!
For the first burn, depending on your candle, you want to burn it as far out to the edge.
For our pillar candles – Burn out to 3mm from the edge of the candle.
For our jar candles EG: Artisan 2-Wick Candle – 3 hours
We know life can get in the way – we strongly recommend you don’t cut your first burn short!
WHAT HAPPENS THEN?
Once the candle memory has been set – you’re ready to embark on your fragrant journey (For so much longer!)
Remember not to burn your candles for longer than 3-hours (have backups for those long dinner party nights!) and to prevent your jarred candles from heating up and potentially cracking, never burn past the 1cm of wax at the bottom of a jar candle or 2cm for a pillar candle.
